New Display at Pye Green Community Centre

Chair of Hednesford Town Council Councillor Alan Pearson, Deputy Chair Ron Turville, Cllr Paul Jones and Cllr Arthur Roden officially unveiled a new display of a very special piece of furniture at Pye Green Community Centre this week.
It is believed that the desk belonged to the former MP and Minister of Health, Aneurin Bevan. The wonderfully illustrated desktop display describes Bevan’s work in developing his ‘Big Idea’ the formation of the NHS.
The desk display is accompanied by several illustrated cards charting the history of healthcare in Hednesford including the wonderful story of Dr Butter!!
Aneurin (Nye) Bevan was born on 15 November 1897 in Tredegar in Wales.
In 1929, he was elected as the Labour Member of Parliament for Ebbw Vale and later married Jennie Lee MP in 1934. Jennie represented Cannock between 1945 to 1970.
In 1945 Bevan was appointed Minister of Health and made responsible for establishing the new National Health Service.
Funding for this project came from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
