Exciting Playtime Plans for the Little Ones at Hednesford Nursery School

Following a visit to Hednesford Nursery School by Hednesford Town Councils Chief Officer Lindsey Smith and Community Officer Matthew Johnson last summer together with robust advocacy from previous town councillor Annette Walker Hednesford Nursery School have been successful in securing a CIL grant of £8400 (awarded November 2023) from Hednesford Town Council to overhaul and provide a safe and interactive outdoor space for the children attending Hednesford Nursery School

Located on Eskrett Street, Hednesford Nursery School is the only remaining County owed nursery in the area and was in desperate need of financial input to be able to meet the required 20% contribution towards costs before Staffordshire County Council could give the go ahead for the improvements works to be rubber stamped.

The works which are currently in the planning stages are to include new rubber surface matting, a multi deck play tower, a bird’s nest swing and a sand and water play area.

A spokesperson for Hednesford Town Council said “the play area as it currently stands is simply not safe enough to allow the children free reign to run, jump, scoot, climb, explore and enjoy their outside environment. Upon speaking with Dawn and Kelly it was clear that they simply did not have the funds to be able to carry out the works that are so desperately needed. Providing a safe and sustainable space will not only benefit the children currently attending the nursery school but it will also ensure that future generations continue to benefit from the improvements made”

A Friends of Hednesford Nursery School committee has also recently been established to provide support for the nursery school and to seek external funding opportunities with the group already being busy maintaining and carrying out further improvement works to the nursery grounds. Anyone interested in volunteering their time with the committee can contact Hednesford Town Council’s Community Officer, Matthew Johnson in the first instance and who will pass your details on – matthew.johnson@hednesford-tc.gov.uk
